There is a lot if wisdom in these 8 verses. After reading through it a few times it seems to fall into two sections. Vrs. 1-3 are grouped together; vrs. 4 is a statement in itself; vrs. 5-8 sound like a longing prayer from David's heart concerning his desire to stay faithful. The end of verse 8 has a statement that we all should fear. "Do not forsake me utterly!" - meaning that the opposite is there is a possibility of someone being utterly forsaken of God. How would this happen? Well the statement in verse 4 is "Thou hast ordained Thy precepts, that we should keep them diligently." ...so is it implied that to not "keep" His precepts diligently means that we could be forsaken by Him? Is this promoting legalism? Are we supposed to be extreme rule keepers? What does the word "Keep" mean? Read through all 8 verses and look at these words: "Walk, Observe, Seek, Keep, Look, Give thanks, Learn, Keep" - Sounds to me like a lifestyle of looking toward Him...a daily longing for Him and His Word - Opposite not looking toward him, nor caring about anything He has to say. "What in your life takes your eyes and attention away from Him?" Can it be said of you that "You seek Him with your whole heart?" - think about what could happen if you don't!
